Default Big problem

Alright. On the way to the 11th st cruise last night, I heard a weird noise, and the car jolted as if I was putting on the brakes. I was doing around 70 with the converter locked, and I'd just gotten the car back with a new tranny and converter. It jolted a few more times and I immediately pulled it off the highway, and into a parking lot. I checked under the hood for anything out of the ordinary, before deciding to see if I could make it across the parking lot. It went about 20 feet before it felt like it hit a wall, and I heard a horrible grinding/clunking noise from the transmission. Had it towed home, a buddy came and disconnected the driveshaft from the rear end, and the rear end will turn, but the driveshaft won't turn. What could this possibly be inside the tranny that screwed up? With the driveshaft connected, the rear tires obviously will not turn. Any info on this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sounds like a planet failure of some sort would be the most likley scenario.
