I mix the tractor fluid with a bit of Dexron for color. I use the SuperTech (Wal-Mart) brand. Look at the chart on the container, it cross-references to the JD fluid and others.

I haven't been able to tell any difference except maybe a slightly firmer cold shift.

My only complaint with it, is the smell, it has less odor than Dexron when new, but for me it is hard to tell if it has a burnt smell or not. Harder to diagnose the fluid in other words.

It is good stuff, it has a higher temp rating than Dexron, and it seems to work well.

I haven't seen a change in stall speed. If there is a change it would be while it is cold or probably very small difference.
I use about 9-10 qts of tractor fluid and 2-3 qts of ATF on a dry fill.

I buy the tractor fluid by the 5 gallon bucket so I pour a couple of qts of ATF in the pan/converter and then fill with tractor fluid.
