Default 4L80-E Conversion - What is needed to make a 4x4 4L80E work?

I've spent the past hour or so searching through 4l80 swap threads and I am unable to find a clear answer on what is what. I've read that you need to swap tailshafts (which it true in a 4l60e) and I've also read you just need to find the right tailshaft housing. Does anyone have any real experience with this? If I use a 4x4 trans - what all must be modified/changed to make it work the same as a 2wd unit in my Camaro?

Thanks for you help,

David

Default

The output shaft needs to be changed and of course the tail housing. There is one other thing that will need to be done to the case. On a 4x4 unit there is a freeze plug that is installed into a lube passage. With the 2wd unit you will need to remove it and install a seal with an orifice into the hole. This is there to provide lube to the extension housing bushing. This seal with the orifice is a special piece that is in the overhaul kit.
