Default th350-th400 builders,please help!!

i converted my m6 to a th400 w/trans-king j9(4000)stall.local builder did the tranny ,ive seen his trannys in 8sec cars,so i know hes pretty good.anyway its all in..but in first and reverse it makes a metal scrapping sound.when it shifts into 2nd it goes away??wtf.he hears it,and says its not a converter noise.sounds like planatery.so out it goes.he pulls it apart.checks everthing, cant find anything wrong with it.but he puts a set of planateries from a "good"tranny(he says he knew these didnt make a noise)just to be safe.i put it back in tonite,SAME DAMN NOISE.what could cause this.driveshaft isnt hiting anything, rearend is fine.everyone who hears it says its not a converter noise?any ideas he migt have overlooked?this is a regular valve bodied tranny.it drives fine other than horrible noise.what could it be.

Kip, does the noise increase/decrease with speed?
Is it a manual or auto valve body? Try starting off in 2nd and see if it does it. The driveshaft is too far in the tranny is it? Try it on jackstands with the rear end loaded to drive height.
Call me.

Did you by chance go with a different ratio aftermarket first gear planetary? I went with a 2.75 first gear in my TH400 and in first gear it makes a sort of whining noise that sounds kind of like a blower or something on the car. I took it back to my tranny guy and we chalked it up to the aftermarket planetary making noise. The tranny works flawlessly and I havent had a single problem with probably about 12-15k miles on it.

std valve body, stock gearing.brought it to him tonite, and hes like"i dont have a clue, ive changed or checked nearly everything"so out it comes again.he said theres only a few things that can cause it only in 1st and reverse.im also gonna send the converter back ,its too lose.it flashes 4500-4800,i know the stock tach is off ,but it still feels way loose.i want 4000 max.any other ideas ,i know theres guys on here that build there own trannys, and for others.1st and reverse.sounds like the whinning on a std tranny when the input shaft bearing is screwed.
