Default weird sound??? HELP

a couple weeks ago my car broke the flexplate, which in turn broke the starter. it also broke the transmission mount. i took it to the shop and they replaced the flexplate with a TCI one. they installed the TCI shim with it too. they put a stock starter and stock trans mount back on too. well the trouble is that when you put the car in gear "especially reverse" it will start making a pecking sound when you give the car gas??? also i think i can feel a vibration when revving in neutral. may not have noticed that before though? do you think that the shim would cause something like this??? i've never heard why anyone would put a shim behind the flexplate? or do you think somethings wrong with the engine, trans??? could the flexplate breaking mess up the engines balancing? i didn't run the car long maybe a min after the flexplate broke, but it was turning 5K RPM's when it did break.

I would look at the flex plate installation,
