Default Automatic Question

I have a 1999 trans am with an A4 transmission and 3.23 gears. Driving in "D" my car shifts fine but when I try to use 1,2,3 my car will shift from 1st to 2nd but not 2nd to 3rd. I have to skip 3rd and go to drive. Is something wrong? I want to know if I'll have to make any repairs. Thanks for any help.* I know you don't shift automatics manually, something I noticed when I first bought the car*

Are you saying it hits the rev limiter when you manually make the shift from 2-3

from 2nd to 3rd it doesn't shift at all. the rpm's just keep rising until i put it in drive, then it shifts.

Ok it may be a tuning issue and you rev limter may be to close to the shift point. The shift from 2-3 takes slightly longer to happen in the 3 position than it does in the od position due to the overun clutch coming on with the 3-4 clutch in the 3 position. Theres a very slight loss of apply volume because of this which increases the time for the shift to occur
