How does a trans brake effect converter selection?

If I use a transbrake, does it make my stall speed less important? More important?
It seems I'd be able to bring the RPMS up to any point I want, above and beyond the flash of the converter. I guess I'd lose a lot of the torque multiplication if I did that though right?

Terry,
Basically, the way a transbrake works is that it applies the transmission forward and reverse clutch packs at the same time, so that the input shaft is held stationary. You can then stall the converter to it's true stall speed. This is also a good way to check the converter's true stall speed. There is no way to stall the converter over its potential (ie...if its a 5000 stall converter then it'll only go to 5000 on the brake.) However it is pretty common to install a two-step and rev the engine to approximately 1000-1500 below the converter's actual stall. This prevents you from hitting the tires too hard and possibly having traction problems.

Very well said Kevin. I agree 100%. For example, with my Yank 4000, I could only foot stall it to about 2800 before it would start pushing the car through the brakes. But with the TB, I could stall it to 4000.
