Default A4 1st to 2nd shift problem

The A4 in my 99 decided to cut my day short at the track. When it shifted from 1st to 2nd it made a loud grinding noise and felt like it locked up the rear wheels.

I let it cool off and the problem occurs when it trys to shift from 1st to 2nd. It never seems to release first gear. I can drive with the gear selector in first, no problem. When I let it shift to 2nd, well, it seems to bind.

This is the first Auto tranny performance car I've owned since 1984 and I havent a clue where to start troubleshooting. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Larry

i got your solution larry , put a blower, heads , cam , headers ,6.0 block and a six speed , that way when it's broken , it's BROKEN! none of that " it still drives " stuff ... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
