Default Factory filled units

If your auto tranny does not have a filler tube (e.g., Ford, BMW) is there a filler plug on the side of the case where you can add/change fliud?

I would assume this is the case since the factory filled units have a stamped tranny pan with standard bolts that is used to access the valve body, drum bands, filter, etc.

Thanks...
