Default TH400 Shifting

Ok, i have a TH400 and a ratchet shifter.. noticed today that when im in 1, it isnt staying in gear, but rather shifting to 2nd early like in Drive.. 2 stays in 2, and doesnt shift until I shift, was thinking maybe it has something to do with the cables or the shifter not actually going down into 1st, and that im actually starting in 2nd when im doing it. Thanks!

Is it manual valve body? Just because you have a ratchet shifter doesnt mean its a manually shifted auto.
