V6 to v8 trans difference
my buddy is putting a 350 in his 86 firebird that came with a v6. Someone told him he needed to change transmissions because the one that came with the v6 is built differently(that it will break instantly with v8 power). I was not aware GM did this at all, I figured they would both be the same. Anyone know anything about it?
Its not that it will break instantly , It has the wrong bell housing which cant be removed in and 86 and its has the wrong input shaft, He will need a trans.

The V6 uses the small bellhousing where the V8 uses the large one they are both 700r4 but there case style is different, So they cannot interchange

V8s get the "90 degree" bell with the larger bolt pattern, the old 60 degree v6s (2.8, 3.1, etc) use the smaller bolt pattern and will not physicly bolt together. It's like trying to put Honda Civic wheels on a Firebird, they don't bolt together. Make sense?
