4l80
All 4L80E transmissions are heavier duty than a 4L60E or THM350 . As far as any year model being more desireable to use as a starting point , the '91/'93 units wiring harness is no longer available and has to be updated to '94 up.
The hard parts got better the later the units were made but some parts would retro back ! "98 and up would probably be the best place to start if you are lookig for a rebuildable core !! But htey can all be made to take that kind of horsepower !! Give us a call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on what year your car is. If you have a ls1 then a 99 and later unit would be best from what I have seen. The reason is that the 99 and later bell has a bolt hole at the 12 o'clock position. Keep that in mind when searching for a unit.

I bought a 94 4l80e and had it built there suppose to be able to hold around the same amount of power as a 99+ when built or so I have heard. I dont care that it doesnt have the 12 o clock bolt anyway as I only used like 5 bolts on the 4l60e because I figured it would come out soon enough haha.
