Default M6 to A4 question about noise.

Since I did the swap the noise getting to me about the converter. The opening was covered with sheet metal. Do you think Dynamat would cure the noise problem? Thanks for any help/ ideas

Converter noise. When I was t56 I couldn't hear any noise. I just thought maybe dynamat would reduce it. There is only sheet metal there now without any sound proofing.

It may I would assume your talking about there is only sheet metal where the holes use to be for the shifter and no insulation. That matt you mention may help and I have had good luck with that expending spray foam put over the sheet metal . Also acoustic insulation you can fine it at car stereo places and it works good to.

Oh I understand now you are getting excessive drivetrain noise from the exisiting shifter hole in the floor tunnel, thanks for the clarification. I don't think I would want expanding foam near my shifter, that stuff can crumble and cause a big mess. It is good when trying to seal between panels.

Use a good silicone sealer when installing the sheet metal plate. Then dyna mat like you suggested then a sound deadening insulation. Way back in the day before there were alot of sound deadening products on the market I would use regular household insulation. I would cut it to size, take about 1/2 of it's mass off and tape it into place! it workes like a charm. Another thing you could use is the backing or nsulation under carpet.. it is called jute and is typically made from compacted cotton fibers.

Just make sure the noises are not abnormal! A torque converter is not normally noisy at all. I certainly do understand road noise at the floor tunnel after a swap though.
