Default m6 --> a4 swap wiring question????

Ok I read the sticky, but it did not help. I am trying to find out what wiring will need to be done on a car that is going from a m6 to an a4. The m6 car will keep the m6 wiring harness as one car is a 98 and the other is an 01. Do the wires that are needed inside the car disconnect at the firewall, or will some new wires actually need to be run???

I can help you with this. But I need to know what year the donor car is... just to make sure we are working with the right tranny. Also, what year is the M6 car... '98, the one in your sig?

If it is going into a 98 then you should buy a standalone controller as the 98 PCM has an oddball operating system that cannot be converter to an A4 form an A6. Get back to me and we can go from there...

Ok that helps alot!

The 01 car will need a dedicated wiring harness built for the purpose of this conversion. The PCM will need to be modified as well. But, it really is not that big of a deal. Feel free to call me if you need details.

He got to be able to just splice into some wires, or had a few to the exsisting wiring harness to make this work right? He shouldn't need a whole new wiring harness for it.

That's correct, there is an overlay harness made by Speartech that is install into the existing PCM wiring terminals. It is highly recommended that someone who is very familiar with these terminals, connectors and wiring PCM's do this job. If it is done incorrectly damge to the harness, PCM or transmission may result. But, it is the absolute best way to go.

The PCM will need to be reprogrammed for the Automatic Transmission. But, it can be used!

Like I said before, do not hesitate to pick up the phone and call.
