Default Removing Console With Auto Trans?

How do you remove the shift *** on a 96 z28 with auto transmission? I have a repair manual that says you pry out a clip and the shift *** will come off the only trouble is I can"t see a clip anywhere on the shifter. Can anyone help? Thanks

it is hidden on the back side (towards the radio) near the bottom of the ****

you will need a really small flat head

I used a pair of needle nose pliers for it. Just be careful when putting it back in that it doesn't slip and go flying somewhere.... like mine did

it looks like a big staple. like dlove said it is on the radio side of the ****. pull it back in 1st gear and you can see the clip. a real small flathead works good.
