You would need a special converter or adapter. But why would you put a 700r4 in and ls1 car the 4l60e is internally nearly identical and you get tunability with a laptop or tuner where as with the 700r4 its all mechanical and shifts points and all have to be done the hard way by removing the valve body and or govenor untill you get what your looking for.

What is the ultimate goal here? Obviously you are trying to swap one transmission for another, but why?

The 700r4 was and still is a terrific transmission that is used in many apllications in the aftermarket world. It is considered to be an analog unit...meaning there are no computer inputs needed for it to operate. It does however need an input from a Throttle Valve cable which is attached to the throttle body. And would require a modification or two in order to achieve 4th gear lock up.

The transmission that came in the car.. the 4l60E would be more desireable than the 700r4.

If you need help on deciding which unit to install and where t get it, just hit me with a pm, call me or e-mail me and I'll be happy to get you going in the right direction.

I would say you are pretty much correct, The advanatage however as I mentioned above with the 4l60e is ease of tunability.

Indeed it is, but there are many other changes internally than just the electronic controls. And it's those changes that are going to make it more desireable overall.

But, without knowing what the goals of the O/P are it is very hard to suggest whether the 700 is not the right unit.... face value I don't think it is.

BTW... were you at the track to see Steven's record setting pass?
