I used to have a tranny shop in the 70's ...have rebuilt countless TH 350, TH 400s.

...the TH400 is obviously the brute workhorse able to sustain great loads and maximum torque, without busting any hard parts (each unit will expire fast with excessive heat, however). It heavy, however,

...the 350 is more effecient and weighs less. It is surprisingly strong, for most applications, however...

If I were you, I would go with the stock auto since it is an overdrive unit (th350, 400 are not)

Why are you considering the old trannys is this for drag racing only; if yes, why not the two speed powergliude; they make some great heavy duty replacement parts for these REALLY old trannys that are great for drag racing...?

after having performed countless t350, t400 and glide swaps into ls1 cars i have one thing to say.
it makes for one heck of a hard launching car when done with the right parts. you wont be unhappy.

one other thing is if you go with the t350, make sure you upgrade to the t400 sprag at least. most of the failures i have seen in this swap are from that part.

ls1's are powerfull enough to break em.
