Default A4 guys...do you race in D or OD?

just curious who uses what to race?

I almost always use OD, would it be that much faster to use D instead? Or even start in 2nd, and manually shift? just to be clear, I am talking about racing from a "jump".

my car has a SY4000 and 3.73s with rev limiter set at 6600 RPM with 26" tire.

Not sure about shift points though, it was all done by LS1 Edit

I do my burouts in D and then tap it up to OD when i pull up to stage. Seems to work well for me. For a while I was in D all the time but was told OD was better for some reason so that's what I do now.

thanks for the info...the only reason I even ask is that I Was told D or 2nd would downshift faster than OD....that's the part of a race where I lose the most ground, that split second where the tranny downshifts....

there has been much discussion here lately about this. OD seem to shift faster than 3rd gear. also let the computer do the shifting. that is one of th big reasons autos are better drag setups assuming big stalls. i know you wont hit the limitor if you run it in OD if your shift point and rev limitor are very close like mine.

if they are not real close then it wont be a big difference in et.

The big fans of 'D' over 'OD' are the bracket racers. If you are in 'OD' and have to let off at the big end, you'll shift to 4th. Not so if in 'D'.
