What happiened!!!!!!!!!!!(4L60E)
Personally, I would never install a salvage yard transmission. But that's me. I would highly recommend you stop where you are and have a reputable performance transmission shop build you a transmission if you plan on doing anything other than put gas in it and go to school or work.
Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

However as for the issue with your other trans I would venture to guess theres a crossleak somewhere allowing the 3-4 clutch oil to apply the reverse input drum clutch, Now on the 2-3 shift this would have no effect since they are actually running together. However once the band comes back on for 4th gear the reverse input frictions would be trying to force the drum to continue to turn and even though they have less area they are allready applied giving them the advanatage, When the band comes on it tries to apply and stop the drum but becomes heated and has less and less ability to hold, This is the binding brake feeling your getting. Then after a bit completley frys the band.
Now this is just a theory but thinking through how it all works its my best guess as to whats going on with the trans you have. Nothings put together wrong theres just 3-4 clutch oil going where it shouldnt into the reverse input clutch.
Hope that was a little helpfull
Frank
