Default Should I stay an A4 or go M6

Ok here is the deal. I have a guy wanting to do a tranny swap. He has 35,000 miles on the T-56 with a new Spec stage III clutch, with a pro 5. My car is a 98 A4 with 73,000 and a stock verter. I am about to buy a used SY400. The thing is should i stay A4 and just put the stall on, or should i do the swap. The guy who is doing the swap has done it before to his car and some other cars. He is charging 400 for each. I also really wouldn't want to buy the stall then swap trannys. I have always wanted a M6, but i don't know what i should do now. The car won't see the track that much. Thanks

Did you ever looked back and wished you still had a A4. I have started seeing more people going to a A4 from a M6. Man, I am still thinking what i should do

I would stay with the A4. There is a lot of work involved in the switch and there is definitely a chance something will not work properly.

In my mind, if I ever go beyond the power limit of the M6, then I would put in a TH350 or a 2004R. I have never really liked the electronic trannies.

Another vote for an A4 here. And you dont have to worry about bent pushrods or replacing your clutch.

Another plus for the A4 is you can eat a cheeseburger and drive at the same time. I still find that hard to do with the M6

It depends on your driving. My SS was a manual...but I drove to work everyday in stop and go traffic in a heavy muscle car with 6 gears. Needless to say it wasn't much fun. I swapped to an auto and never looked back. For me, if I was gonig to drive a manual, I would get something light that likes to rev. Just my $.02

I think i am going to keep my A4. As I think i can be just as potent with my SY4000 and 3.73, if that is not enough then i will go PT4400. Also i don't like all the problems with these T-56s. I think i could do pretty good against an M6 with about the same mods as me. Thanks guys

A4 , if you are looking to get good e.t.'s or if you like a broad range of power bands for the street, M-6 . Just depends what your looking to get from the car.

Personal preference is the key word of choice. However, for the general public, it appears overall the A4 has more advantages over the M6. It is easier to drive, easier to launch at track or less skill to drive, and shifts for you. Just a few thoughts. I have an A4 and have never looked back. Several folks in this part of the country have switched from the M6 to an automatic. In all honestly, I guess these folks got tired of being beat by the A4's. If you have auto, I would stick with it and use money on other mods. The M6 may have a higher trap speed, but the first one across the line wins the race. Cheers...

TH400 w/ manual valvebody and gear vendor overdrive. a little bit on the $$ side, but it's still manually shifting, haha, and you still get the overdrive!

I'll stick to A4. Like the guys say with equal mods i've rarely lost to a M6. The only time I did is when the guy sprayed me.
However if u live in a curvy whiny mountainy region, I would go for M6; you get better control in curves with a clutch also better powerband on demand.
Like Felton316 said a free hand is a great asset and for much more than eating a cheese burger LOL
