Its the vent tube for the transmission - and that is a check valve so it only blows out, won't suck stuff INTO the transmission.
The vent is on the very top of the tranny case behind the bellhousing. You'll have to drop the tranny mount and lower the tranny to get it back on.
You could run without it for a week or two or something, but I'd put it back on. The 4L60-E needs all the help it can get without a potential source of internal contamination.

well i just tried and i dont know where that plugs in at but i could not feel anything on top of the tranny that felt like the check valve would fit except for one spot aft of the tranny pan, i just felt a hole but couldnt reach it well enough to tell if that was it... any help?
Look right after the bellhousing and just to the pasenger side on top it should have a little curved piece of tubing @ 1.5 inches long. The rubber hose just slides over that nipple and then the other end is run to the tourqe arm. Hope that helps I just put a 4L60E in the other day so (98 Truck) The cases are the same so just look around You'll find it its there!
