Goto your local auto store and buy a floor jack and some truck jack stands, drop your tranny down, and swap converters. Its really a straight forward install.
I am by no means mechanically inclined But I swapped my M6 out of my SS for a TH400, all by myself. I did this in front of my house in my drive way using jack stands. It was really very simple. I bought a 3400 stall with my tranny and going to be upgrading it to a 4000 stall, I estimate that I can to do the converter swap myself in half a day.
I say go for it yourself.

Thanks Lee, i am a mechanic that is out of work at the moment(don't ask) , but it is winter in Michiagn and i have no garage to work in,so for me the option of laying on my back in the driveway is out of the question(too cold and i am spoiled by working with a hoist for the last 10 years). i really would rather pay a good shop to throw it together so i can take the time i have off and get it dyno'd again with the convertor and nitrous. However if it was summer and not freezing out , i really would do it.

Why not get a quote from a GM dealer?
I had my TC installed at the local Chevy dealer for $250. I had no good place to do it myself.
Recommend having the front trans seal replaced at same time while they're in there. Also a good idea to spray some WD40 or similar on the Y pipe studs and let it soak as they are known to break sometimes when an air wrench is used

GWJ,i worked at a gm dealer and they told me that book time is over 5 hours and that it will be $78 per hour,OUCH.I swear i came across a post that someone had there's installed with a cooler for $150,that just floored me but i may end up trying real hard to find freinds with either a lift or a heated shop. Thanks for your input.
