weird Trans/rear noise
Hey, sorry if this is a common issue. I didn’t see any other postings on this subject.
Anyways... I have had my TA for 6 years now. 98 with an auto
trans.
Recently I have been getting a lot of noise from he rear-end. First, when driving at a decent speed (45+) and when I let off the gas I can hear a whirling sound from the rear-end. About a year ago I had a leak coming from the limited slip diff, and had the seals redone. Ever since this I have noticed this sound, however lately I am more worried about it.
When slowing to a stop I can feel (and hear) a slight knocking/ jerking as the car shifts into first as I stop. This issue is more intense the quicker I stop. I can also hear a slight "clanking" as if there is some play in the drive train as it downshifts.
Anyone have any ideas as to the issues I could be having? And if so, what I could do to help without overhauling the rear-end or trans? New fluids (Red Line/ Royal Purple), the current fluid has about 10k on it.
Thanks

It sounds lik ethe Backlash has loosened up somewhat. This could be due to several different conditions... worn bearings, worn gears, pinion nut loosened up, cracked carrier shim etc....
It is best to have it looked at by a professional soon. The gears could be damaged if you continue to drive it as it is.
If you are local to D/FW give me a call.... we build High Performance axles as well! We swap several sets of gears out each month.
