question for the a4 gods (very basic but hard to find)
Everywhere ive looked even the dealership cannot answer one simple question; in a 2002 t\a with auto tranny at what rpms do the shifts happen im asking this cause im wanting to change em to as close to 6k as possible but hypertech has you change the shifts in mph and i dont wanna rely on the tach beacouse most say its inaccurate when at wot. My guess (looking at the tach) is 1-2 is 5800 and 2-3 is 5500 (havent found enough open road to see 3-4 recently) but like i said thats from the tach HELP ANYBODY YOU WONT BELIVE HOW MANY IVE ASKED THIS SIMPLE QUESTION WITH NO LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just need to use one of the online gear calculators to decide your points. Do a search and you will find what you are looking for...
but even with that i cant decide how much mph i need to add in my hpp3 to get to 6k shifts causeone im not exactly sure where im at now in mph shifts or rpm shifts so since i already know how much +1 mph will increase my rmps (courtesy of hypertech) all i need to find out is where im at now in rpms to to i can the correct mph to my shift settings if you got a better idea PLEASE LET ME KNOW IM STUCK!!!!!
If you have your Hypertech owners manual, it clearly shows how much rpm is gained or lost by moving the shift points in increments of 1 mph. It totally depends on what rear-end gears you have. Look at the manual.

You can use a Tech II or Autotap or EFI Live to scan a blast and see where the trans shifts. I see the stock shifts around 5800 or so. I think HPP3 bumps up shift points 150 rpms or so, can anyone concur? In general I would not want you to shift higher than 6100 with stock valvesprings.
