Default Big problems

Ok..A friend of mine had a vigilante 3600 put in my a good shop in the area about a month and a half ago...ok run down..it's a 2002' SS with little bolt on's..the car was going 12.70's@111 in the winter and 12.90's-13.0's@109 in the summer before the converter...well after the converter went it the car got MUCH slower...un explainable to me..the car ran before on 245/50/16 nitto's with z28 wheels in the back...after the converter on went the e.t. street's 26/10.5/16's...ok the car went from an average of 13.0@109..to 13.5@102 with the 3600 stall!!!there was no spinning or anything..the car dead hooked and took off..end of story..so what the hell could be wrong with it lol...i feel bad because i was always bugging him to get a converter..cuz i went from 12.70's to 12.20's with my 3200 a few years back...oh then the other day he said he floored it to pass someone and he threw an SES light...the code came back (under autozones scanner) as the shift control stelinoid was stuck open...wich would make sence down the track and all...but it shifted perfectly down the track..I have a much better scanner so i am going to scan just to double check...but anyone know of anything i can do to help this kid?...anone ever heard of anyone LOOSING 5 tenths and 7mph from a converter LOL..never heard it myself..i only lost 1/2 a mph with mine..any help would be awesome...Thank's,

Carter

Most likely PCM gremlins are pulling out timing. Could be false knock or something else. Bottom line, the motor is down on power for some reason.

My personal experience with drag radials vs. ET Streets/Slicks is this:
Unless you have a lot of power and gear, stick with drag radials. A friend have a Vette set up like mine, and ran a 1.64 short time on RE71 Bridgestone Potenza tires (12.04 ET), we put slicks on it for the next run, same day...and it went slower. Not .5 , but a little. The ET streets grow at the big end and sacrifice some rear gear ratio, and they take more power to lug down the track. Try the Nittos with a powerbrake to 3,000 and then stomp it and see how it does.

Running that much slower is definitely strange. I can tell you that the shift solenoid stuck open code is probably a result of the bigger stall converter and that there really isn't a problem there. I get the same code on my car with my pro thruster 4200. I hear this code will occur most often in the newer model year cars, like your friend's car and my car.
