I went to the zone to get a few quarts of Dex III for my torque converter swap. all the had was dexron VI, went to another autozone and all they had was Dexron VI. So I bought 5 quarts of it...
Can I use this? I'm sure it will be mixed with the dexron III, not sure if this is bad or not. Thanks!

dex VI is synthetic... I think it follows the same rules as far as what you can do to engine oil. You CAN add it to old auto trans oil but it should be either all sythetic or all regular. Up untill now the Dex numbers have superceded the others so i would imagine it would still continue this pattern. As i do not know for sure and it is a tranny we are talking about if i were you id wait for a couple more people to agree with me before acting. hope this helps....kinda

Thanks for the reply, it would be in there for a few months or so until I bring it to a shop to get everything flushed & refilled with new filter and pan "don't want to do all that stuff myself".
If I can't use this stuff I guess I could bring it back but have no idea where to find dexIII.

VI is a direct replacement for III.

You will be fine with it, I don't think it's considered a synthetic. Most placed don't even have Dex III anymore.
