u might eb able to use a 6 speed crossmember for that th400 tranny, but yea depending on the length of the model th400 you have, you will need a new driveshaft and need to do soemthing to get the speedometer to work. Its not really a big deal to get it to work and if you're smart about it and know what you're doing i dont think you will spend no where near $1000. Hope this helps

Yeah 500 bucks will do the job and thats if you go the expensive route.
BMR conversion crossmember 250
shorten DS locally 100 150 bucks.

This is assuming a compatible converter comes with the TH400.

Here is my list of parts. Not including the TH400 and converter.

BMR conversion crossmember with TA relocation - 250
B&M SFI flexplate - 75
B&M Pro Stick shifter with RMVB gate plate - 150
My tranny came with a VSS already installed so it was plug and play for the speedo.
Dennys Nitrous ready driveshaft - 350

This is also assuming you doing all the work yourself.
I could not afford this hobby if I had to pay someone else to do my wrenching.
