Default shift linkage on 4l80e

I read in the sticky that you could change out the shift shaft on the 4l80 with the shorter 4l60 one. However when I try and do this my shaft from the 4l60 is not even long enough to stick out of the hole.. what are you guys doing?

Im pretty sure that if you get a certain model year 4l80e you will need to put a shorter 4l80e linkage in there is different types I didnt really hear anything about using your 4l60e one but I could be wrong. I think your just suppose to use the 4l80e shifter bracket the one that the cable attaches to. I had a 94 4l80e and the shifter linkage in that one was fine I just bolted on my bracket and was good to go.

~ Stock shifter will work. I had to take the small bracket the where the shifter cable connects to the 4l60e and swap it out with the one on the 4l80e. Its the part on the trans where the gear changing occurs. The shifter cable will snap on this bracket. (sorry if it doesnt make sense) The part where the shifter cable attaches on the 4l80e is alot bigger then the 4l60e, but if you swap them out you'll be fine.

this is what I read off the sticky.. maybe im not reading it right.. Apparently the shaft doesnt change.. its the bracket.. hmm ill have to check that out.. thanks
