It's not hard. It is time consuming to get everything exactly right. Don't attempt it unless you have a dial indicator and mount, accurate in/lb torque wrench, and a hella strong impact wrench for the crush collar. If you've never done one, I would suggest watching someone do one that really knows what they are doing. I watched Joseph do a set on my car and was able to do one on my own later.

Installing gears isnt really all that hard. You just have to follow the steps and do everything like your supposed too and you should be alright. If you do a search here youll find a couple of install pages that will really help you out. Like 2x said, having the right tools makes all the difference. You absolutely need a dail indicator and base, which you can get from msc for around $20. I would also recomend a micrometer. That way you can measure the shims when trying to get the right backlash. One other thing I usualy do if I'm installing the gears at home in the garage without a lift is to just remove the whole rear. It only takes about a half an hour and will make it so much easier to set up the gears. If you decide to do it your self feel free to email me with any questions. I've installed quite a few at home plus a bunch at the chevy dealer I worked at.
