Default Converter and tranny cooler???

Alright boys and girls...I got an 04 GTO and I am installing a 3000 stall in it here in a few days. Will I need a tranny cooler with the converter install? I've heard yes and i have heard no. Cruising at 70mph the car is running lil over 2000 rpm.....so the converter will not be locked up. How long can I run the converter before I burn up the tranny without a cooler. Any other insight and info would be much appreciated!! Thanks everyone

You do need a trans cooler for your car because the stall creates a lot of heat. @ 70 mph you will be locked up even if it is untuned. just because your stall is 3000 rpms doesnt mean you cant be locked up. It just means that under 35ish in third and like 40ish in 4th that it will be slipping until that point when the car locks up and it is just like your regular stall with no slippage. Getting to those speeds though creates a lot of heat, so get a cooler, and save your self some money.

I'll get the cooler of course, now my next question is what one do i get and if the stall gets installed today can I wait till this weekend to put the cooler in? And am I gonna notice a big difference with a converter? I've never driven a car with a converter. Also, how long can I run the car with the converter and cooler till I get my dyno tune?

I'll get the cooler of course, now my next question is what one do i get?

I went with a Hayden Rapid Cool 30k unit from advanced auto (free shipping)

If the stall gets installed today can I wait till this weekend to put the cooler in? Personally with my driving style (heavy traffic) I would not run it without the cooler.

Am I gonna notice a big difference with a converter? Yes, its like driving a completely different car.

I've never driven a car with a converter. Also, how long can I run the car with the converter and cooler till I get my dyno tune? For me I needed tuning asap. Some people with bang the rev limiter and need the shift points adjusted. I was getting clutch chatter so I had to modify parts of the tranny tune to remedy that.

my car needed no tuning for the 4000 stall to work right. You tranny will be fine so as long as you aren't putting your foot into it and letting it stay at high RPMs. Make you you avoid stop and go traffic and just cruise it nice and slow back to you house.

You will notice with the stall that when you mash the gas down the RPMs will slip to 3000ish before you start moving, but when your car moves, it will shoot you forward, the way i see it in my head is like a circular whipping action forward if you catch my drift. When your cruising, you car's RPMs will no longer steadily rise, it is more of you push the peddle and the rpms will move to 1500ish and slowly move the car forward. You will notice what i am saying when you drive it, you will probably regret getting such a small converter too.

I got a B&M 30,000 BTU cooler. There are tranny cooler install guides all over LS1tech. Just do a search.

A Tranny cooler is cheap and easy insurance, just make it happen, they are like 50-60 dollars. good luck and be safe.
