Default 4l60e noises...

alright my car has 137k miles on it so does the tranny. i installed a b&m shift kit on the street/strip setting about 7 months ago. it had roughly ~124k on it then. from 1st -2nd it shifts very firm but no clunking. from 2nd-3rd it clunks into gear prolly 80-90% of the time in low rpms, not firm like it should be just a weak clunking shift. i started really noticing this a month or two ago. and one day i was driving and had to slow down for someone turning and when i rolled back on the throttle it clunked really hard upshifting. so is my trans fixing to crap out? its not the trannt mount cause i already replaced that with a poly one.

My guess would be you have excessive 3-4 clutch clearance due to age and miles on the trans. This will cause a allmost hammer like effect during the 2-3 shift due to time and travel velocity for the apply, I wont say the trans is failing however it may be a sign that theres considerable wear there.

did the shift kit contribute to this? the kit came with stiffer springs to go in the accumulator for the tow setting and metal spacers for the street/strip setting. i have the street/strip setting. so would it help to put the springs in instead of the spacers even though the ports in the valve body were drilled out for s/s?

The 2-3 hole mod on the seperator plate has a big effect on the 2-3 shift too. I have had the valve body out a couple of times and tried various hole sizes on the seperator plate. Not sure about the B&M kit but the transgo kit says 0.093 on the 2-3 hole but I went to 0.101 and it clunks a little whereas with 0.093 it was nice and firm with no clunk.

He is correct with the 2-3 shift the hole size plays the biggest part.
