Default Safety Question

Ok I have the car on Jackstands, almost as high as they will go but, a little lower than the top just to feel safe underneath the car. I have completed the Transgo Shift kit. I have not refilled the xmission fluid yet. I have almost everything detached from the trans and am about to lower it. The neato transmission jack adapter combined with the sears 3 1/2 ton jack does not appear like it will be able to lower the trans low enough. What would you do? 1)Say screw the adapter and use the regular jack saddle-and if so where should I place it? Having gotten real familiar with the valve body and pan with the shift kit I am hesistant to lower the trans with the jack saddle-it looks like it might crush the pan? Or 2)Try to squeeze a few more inches out of the jackstands-(six ton sears)and try the adapter. #2 might seem easy "on screen." However let me reiterrate my lack of thrills about going higher with the car. Bear in mind when I was in the navy I had no problem with jacking up a 28 million dollar, 34k lb F/A-18 with the proper jackstands. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Doc,
Are you putting in a stall? Or, are you just trying to get the tranny out from under the car? Either way, use the saddle. The tranny will get really unstable after you get the bell housing bolts out and slide it off the pins. The pan would probably crush as well. I wouldn't trust it.
Let me know,
Kyle

Just pulled mine yesterday, and had the same problem. Once I had the jack lowered, I carefully slid the trans from the jack to the floor. Then I just dragged it out from under the car. Put a few scratches in the pan, but who cares. You may want to pull the TC off the input shaft before you slide the trans off the jack; it will save a good 20+lbs off of the total weight.

What I usually do is remove/install the trans is get a couple of guys to help me. One guy balances the trans on the jack and the third guy controls the jack. Once the jack is lowered all the way, we put the trans on the ground and drag it out as mentioned above. Install is the reverse.

Well I got brave and got a buddy to help me out. We squeezed out a few more inches raising up the car and I then could use the trans jack adapter on the jack. Came down real stable an all. Now if I can only get the drivers side Header to go in...
