Default Newbie Converter Question

Thinking of installing a torque converter in my '01 WS6 A4. Are there any computer mods to be made or is it just a swap from old to new? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Thanks for any answers you can give me.

It is a pretty straight forward swap.. Out with the old, in with the new... You will be ok with a small converter Vig 2800 for sale but the bigger you get, like say 3200 or more you will most likely need tuning......

generally no mods are required but you could experience the following:

1) Torque Management. TM makes the car feel like it is hesitating to shift. You have the issue now, but you tend to notice more with a higher stall converter.

2) Shift points. Lighter high stall converters cause the motor rev faster and this sometimes causes the shift points to be off or worst case you tag the rev limiter.

You have about a 10 - 20% chance of experiencing one or both issues with a 2001. The odds are in your favor, but it is not a guaranteed slam dunk. Ultimately, you'll probably want to buy something to adjust your shift points, TCC lock-up, etc. It may not be in your current plan, but since you'll probably want it, its not the end of the world if you get that now too.
