Will my 4L60E be destroyed?
I have been reading allot in here about m6 and a4 tans. It seams like the the forum has confirmed my fears. The 4L60E trans, that I have in my 98 camaro is deff. Not the strongest in the world. I have been wanting to do some power upgrades on my car for a while, but have suddenly been struck with doubts. The car is a 98 Z28 ls1 with an A4 it has about 40 k miles on it. The upgrade I have been pondering is :
Patriot stage II ported heads
Comp cam, not to big, around 230 or so.
Fast 90/90
Kooks stainless headers
And custom stainless exhaust.
Oh and a tune.
I have a lid and cold air intake.
I Need a different stall, but am hoping to keep it in the low range. The car is a dd, and I don’t plan on taking it to the track more then 2-3 times per year. I don't race the car, only a bit of drag, and NO drag tiers.
I have a set on CC wheels on the car with 295 wide street tier. and will keep it that way.
Now the question! Will I destroy my 4L60E with this set up, and do you have an idea for the stall? Do I need a built trans.?
The question I would have is how has it been maintained? If it has had the fluid changed a time or two along with the filter then you should be fine. The idea is that if it is properly maintained and you do not spend alot of time in the upper rpm ranges making WOT upshifts then it should last you a while in stock trim.
However, it does have it's limitations. I believe in being proactive. Meaning, rather than waiting for a failure, I believe in planning and executing an upgrade to the transmission so that if you do experience a failure it is not such an acute situation being as the car is a DD.
Hope that helps.

Ratchet: as far as I know it has been maintained fine. The oil looks good and fresh, and has been changes ones or twice. But I can easily follow your point in wanting to do things right, I hate to do things over
I’m guessing that there is no way around it, I need a whole new transmission. I will start saving a bit more, and look around for what is best. I want to do the car the correct way, no short cuts.
Thanks for the info,
Even though I would like to do it the correct way, there is an unfortunately thing called finance
and it is good to know that if I simply cant wait I can run the stock trans. for a little while.
