Do the convertor first. I really like my Yank SS-3800 convertor hits really hard even with my 2.73's. Just do the convertor first, and if it is too loose, then get the gears.

Franny 40 I have a yank st3500 and 323s, I plan on installing 410s. At 80 mph in od your at 3000 not to bad. I had 410s and broke my pinion with my 315 nittos, It would wheel hop bad, I now have different tires with a lot more side wall so I want to try 410s again. Either way you go you will need stickier tires.

Default what size gears & torque converter for my 2001 A4

I have a 2001 A4 with the 2.73 gears my next mods are the gears and torque converter. I use it as a daily driver and occasionally i like to drive it hard. I have been recomended to install 3.73 and a 3200 T.C. I just want to swap my stock parts out without having to do too much to anythingelse. Thank you.

I called Precision Industries last week to see what kind of stall speed they would suggest for my car based on my current modifications (see sig) since they make what is probably the best converter for the f-body - the Vigilante. Since I'm not going to do much more to the car for a while, they suggested a 3200 stall to go with my 3.73's. If you give their tech line a call, they will suggest what to use. Ask them what they would recommend for you with 3.42's and 3.73's based on what has been done to your car and what you intend to do over the next couple of years. They will also give you one free stall adjustment within the first two years of purchase so you can go to a higher stall later on. Their tech line number is:

I have 3.42 gears with a 3600 (had a 3200, used the free restall and got the 3600, and have loved it ever since.) Are you going to be going to the track at all with this setup?

i plan to take it to the track someday, but i use it mostly as a daily driver and to go on leisure drives. I want to getbetter performance out of my car without having to do too much to anything else. This is a modification i have been told to acheive better performance. Thank you.

Gear changes aren't cheap. Parts. Labor. Programmer to recalibrate the speedo....
Picking the right converter can forego the gear change.
