Default 4L80E 2 or 4 wheel drive?

Can a 4X4 4l80e be used in a rear wheel drive vehicle? Can the "transfer case" (proper term??) be unbolted from the tranny case to be used in a car?

Do all 6.0L engines (truck) come with 4l80e's or do some come with 4l60e's?

Doing a little research here -would like to get a truck 6.0engine/transmission/harnes to drop in my 87 Monte Carlo if possible. Need to know if that's possible or should I use a 4l60e from a car instead..

TIA
Dean

In you want to use a 4x4 trans in a car you need to remove the transfer case. Then the trans needs to be completley disassembled and have a 4x2 output shaft and tail housing installed. You might have problems finding just the shaft and housing.

I would assume a 6.0 truck would have a 4L80E, a lot of 4.8's have them.

As far as a 4L60E vs 4L80E it depends on what you want to make out of the car. Power and weight will determine the best trans selection.

Kind of figured it wouldn't be as easy as unbolt the transfer case and bolt on a "new tail housing". Don't want to dismantle the trans to be able to use it.

Have to look for 2 wheel drive tranny I guess.

The car will be street driven - no racing - looking for probably 450-475 horse.....4l60 should be good but thought that 4l80 would most likely come with a 6.0L?

So anybody know if any trucks come with 6.0L and 4l60 tranny?

What about 6.0 truck with 2 wheel drive 4l60 or 4l80?
