Default tranny slipping

2000 Z28, 70k miles.

After installing a new converter which upon installation I broke the transmission pump, I met a guy who had a bad tranny and says his pump was good. I took the stator shaft off of my pump and swapped it with his pump. I put the pump in my tranny and re-installed. The transmission keeps bouncing off the rev limiter at WOT. Driving normal everything shifts fine. I pulled the pan today and there the fluid was beautiful.

My buddy says that it's not possible to have a pump not be bad if the tranny is bad so he thinks I got a bad pump from that guy.

Do you guys think my Transmission needs a rebuild? Or do I just need a new pump? I was also thinking maybe I need a tune to lower the shift points. I have another tranny with less than 30k on it I can install...I just want to see what you guys think first.

Whoa you likley just need a tune at this point , In many even most cases there is some tuning needed to get the shifts back correct after a stall installation. You say it shifts normal in normal driving which would indicate that too.

I put the stock converter back in and it's still having the same problems. Sorry I should have mentioned that before. Is that true that if a transmission goes bad the pump automatically is bad too?

Just cause the trans is messed up doesn't mean the pump is bad, it's usually other things. Did you damage any of the teflon sealing rings on the pump or turbine shaft? What did the pump come off of? year?

I was very careful with the seal. The pump came off a 4L60E from a Silverado. I was told it would work as long as it was a PWM pump. Hopefully I was informed correctly. I have a feeling though that the pump is causing it to slip at WOT.

his pump may have different presure spring or just be weaker.
