Default output shft/tailshaft movement??

just pulled my driveshaft to install new u joints and noticed the output shaft moved around in the tailshaft housing, is it supposed to move around like that? im not thinking so, so what could be wrong? i also notice the trans sometimes makes a clunking sound when it downshifts into 1st when approaching a stop. thanks for the help.

Actually the tail shaft is supported by the bushing in the tail housing via the drive shaft yoke, There will be some movement when the tail housing is off or the drive shaft yoke is removed from the housing, This would be normal.
