Default disptick differances

i put a lt1 dipstick and sipstick tube into my 99 ls1 tranny and all has been fine..originally the car took i think 8qts

recently i changed the filter and let it drain for about an hour replaced the filter ect put it back together also drained the tranny cooler and refilled the tranny with 5qts and it reads about 3inches up the stick with no heat in it...cleaned it a few times and let it sit over night because i thought there was fluid inside the dipstick tubes but it still high...i dont udnerstand why i figures it would be slightly low...i even drove around the block came back let it cool and still high?

i might be totally off but i dont think the lt1's were 4l60e i think it was just the 4l60 , other than that i dont know about the dipsticks, i bought my car with a failing transmission and the shop told me it was from an lt1 but i used the dipstick off it and it reads right
