Default Couple of ?'s about my new Yank...

First of, I know it's a small converter, but I got a good deal on it and figured it was better than stock! that said... Is there a break in period on a new Yank 2600? also... It seems to shift rather weak on the 1-2 @ wot even though I have only tried it twice, before it hit pretty hard now it's mushy! I had the shifts bumped up to +2 with the HPP3 before the converter but since I have added a LS6 cam the tuning is stock until the car gets LS1 edit in a couple of weeks by Norris. Maybe that's part of the problem, it shifts pretty early set back to stock with the LS6 cam.

No break-in period.

Shifts feeling softer are perfectly normal with a higher stalling converter. The looser the converter, the softer the shifts...especially at part throttle.

No break in, sounds good to me! it feels kinda mushy @ WOT 1-2 but it may be because it shifts much earlier without the tuning. Heck, maybe it's just me, I was without the car for 3 weeks so maybe I forgot how it shifted?

It's not your imagination. Like I said before, a looser converter will always make shifts feel softer. Your early shifts aren't helping matters either.

The Colonel is right, I just switched from a Yank ST3500 to a TCS 4200 and the part throttle shifts are quite a bit softer. I will have to have my part throttle shifts firmed up again.

The converter clutch does have to break in, but most people don't bother with any sort of special driving because of it.

I notice a lot of guys running TCI's and TCS's now, everyone used to want a Yank or a Vig. Is something wrong with the Yank's now?

There's nothing wrong with Yank. There is no denying Yank's performance. It's just that Yank and Vig are not sponsors here (Yank used to be)...and being a sponsor here goes a long way with alot of people. Also, TCI and TCS are now showing excellent results at excellent prices.

Jay, I am currently running a TCI 3500 in my '02 and I love it. I was running a 4400 Yank in my racecar but it will be getting a new, higher stalling converter with the new C5R setup (not sure what it'll be just yet though.)

Jorday is right, the lockup clutch inside the converter is supposed to go through some type of break in procedure for optimum driveability. However, there is only one OEM that I know of, that being Chrysler, that has a break in strategy built into their powertrain management system for this purpose. During the first few hundred miles the clutch slippage rate is regulated higher than normal. A useless fact and probably a useless strategy, but interesting nonetheless.

My Yank SS3800E came with instructions to break it in for the first 200 miles or the clutches may become damaged. No WOT or break stalls until broken in.

Tell, me...what does WOT or brake stalls have to do with the lockup clutch? Nothing, it isn't used then so how could it?

just repeating what was on the directions maybe it was refering to locking up the converter in third at WOT but thats just a guess.

How do you like the SS3800? I am thinking about getting an SS3600 for my car; just a bit concerned because its my daily driver.
