Re: LS1 4L60E ? The 4L60E has a removable bellhousing. Your best bet would be get an LT1 bell. I don't think there should be any more fittment issues, I know the M6 trans has a different input shaft length from LT to LS but the A4 should be the same as far as I know.

Re: LS1 4L60E ? I don't know what the cases look like from the LT1's, but the LS1 4L60 most definately has a removable bellhousing, much like a manual trans. There are a bunch of Torx Plus head bolts attaching it to the trans case. If you slide the torque converter off you'll see the black bolts there. There are a bunch of regular hex bolts too, don't take them off they hold the front pump on the trans! If you remove the bellhousing to swap it with an LT1 unit, make sure to use the proper Torx Plus socket, loctite, and factory torque specs. You most definatley don't want to have a bolt come loose there, or strip etc.

Re: LS1 4L60E ? i think you will also need a converter from a lt1... now what year of lt1 is this going in to? the computer controlled parts of the trans my be diffrent also... if it's 95 or under lt1 then i could see that as a problem.
