Default th400

i was wondering how much it would cost to have a th400 built and installed in my car. I need to get rid of the 4l60e its my 3rd one and they just cant handle the engine. the numbers in my sig are with the current trans but it slips real bad at 5500 rpms. guys at the shop said that with a better trans i should easily see over 500rwhp. so i figure that a th400 will do the trick. thanks for any help.

Hit the back button and click on "Look Here! These Threads Have Some Good Information You Want!!" at the top of the page. Thats why no ones in a hurry to answer this because it's come up a million times.

You wont get more power from running a 400 and at 500 rwhp you should be able to use the 4L60E when built properly , In fact you will loose some RWHP with the 400 due to its internal weight. Additionally unless this is just a weekend warrior you will also loose overdrive and lockup meaning your normal driving fuel efficiency is going to drop by 30 percent or more. On the dyno without lockup as far as numbers go you will also see much lower because of the inability to lock the converter. But if thats where you want to go heres a link about what all involved

On my running tally on my th400 install I did all the install work myself and am using the stock shifter. I bought the driveshaft and trans mount from Erick Vicary at midwest chasis for a little under 400, 230 for the sfi approved flywheel. I used the converter out of my th350 but it might be on it's last leg not sure yet so I was quoted about 650 on a converter from precision industries. Other than that I bought my trans used so I'd look into trans builders around your area and make some calls.
