Default Suggestions: tc and gears

I have the normal bolt ons, I have h/c -st2heads 224/114 cam, ls6 intake, pulley ordered and will install at the end of the month. I will only be at the track on rare occassions. I know that I will be picking up rear end parts if I do nothing and am planning that as my next upgrade. I have read a lot of sig.s, but would be interested in what you guys would recommend for a tc/stall and gears.

Thanks for any suggestions ( no drag radials )

You don't describe your driving habits, goals or any must have issues. That makes it hard to offer advice.

With no drag radials, you will spin easy off the line. Therefore, I would suggest a low STR, high efficency converter like a SY 3500 and 3.42s. If you do a lot of racing from a roll and don't mind a loose converter, a 4000 stall like a YTP 4000 or TCS 4000 with a 2.2 STR

I have a Midwest 3000 RPM stall with a 2.5 STR. I don't have h/c yet. I am pretty consistently pulling 1.8 60' times on street tires. After only having it in the car for a couple of months, the car wouldn't feel right without it. It is a lot more fun to drive now...
BTW, I still have the crappy 2.73 gears as well...
Like Ragtop says, let us know what you are wanting to do with the car.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will probably only make a couple of trips to the track a year. I am primarily looking for a good streetable combination. I don't want the sloppy shift feeling all the time, so propper str is a must. I am replacing the old tires with f1 GS-D3's. My primary goals are decent take-offs (seldom hard launches) and good performance from a roll. Sorry for the lack of details in the original request. And thanks again for your initial recom.s

If you don't want a loose feeling converter, you need a higher STR. If you want high mph when racing from a roll, you want very high efficiency. Best I've found that meets both needs is the Yank Super Stock 3800. The unique 21 blade stator hits hard, but allows for excellent top-end efficiency.

3.73s are very good from a roll at 40+ mph punches, but you top out in 3rd around 125 mph depending upon your shift points and converter slip. 3.42s will give you coverage to 140 mph or slightly higher.

STR will not significantly effect the sloppiness of the shifts. A shift kit can clean that up.
