Default 3-4 Shift Slippage

Sup guys...

got my LS1 4L60E givin me some problems...

it's been doin this for a while now, but it's progressively getting worse....

at any cruising speed the transmission will continuously "slip" out of 4th into 3rd...then when i give it some more throttle, it jumps back into gear...

it's gotten so bad that i've had to keep the dern thing in 3rd manually...

i am thinkin the 3-4 shift solenoid, but i've gotten no codes on it at all.

take for example cruising at 70mph right around 1900-2000 rpm...
if i do not modify my throttle position, then the tranny will slip and the engine will rev to approximately 3400-3500 rpm, then upon moving the throttle will pop back into play...

the longer i drive the car the more often it slips...

anyone care to guess at my problem?

i am doing a 6-speed swap here very soon, but i need this thing to last up to that point....

I just got a new built unit due to the same thing. My box had a glazed drun/ 2nd apply band and the 3-4 clutch teeth (???) in the drum were damaged. The trans didn't like it and wouldn't lock up in OD. I was told to drive in 3rd to avoid abuse of the already damaged components and also 3rd has more holding clutches or something to hold gear.

If it was the lock up solenoid the tranny would go into limp home wouldn't it?

I have had that happen on a couple of my 4L60e trannies. Usually that means the 3/4 clutch pack is on its last legs. (rebuild time)
As said above, you can baby it around in 3rd for a while and probably not get stranded, but when it refuses to lockup in OD completely, you will probably have to limp home in 2nd gear. That was what happened to me. There may well be other issues, but the weakest part of the 4L60e is the 3/4 clutch pack and will probably need freshening up very soon.
