Converter locks up for a sec in 3rd during normal driving??? Ever since I had my cam installed and dynotuned at MTI, just driving normally, my converter will lock up at around 30mph in 3rd for a second and then it will unlock and shift to 4th and then lock-up again at 40mph like it should. How am I supposed to stop it from doing this? My converter screwed up and sent crap all through the tranny a few weeks after the cam was installed but Vig rebuilt it and Mike Kurtz rebuilt the tranny and now I have the car back but it's still doing this. Could this have caused my tranny break down? thanks

Re: Converter locks up for a sec in 3rd during normal driving??? The lockup for a second in 3rd that you are talking about is present due to the stock lockup points. My car does the same thing and I have never messed with the converter lockup speeds. I only noticed it doing this after I did heads/cam and screwed with my line pressure on my stock transmission with the stock converter.
Re: Converter locks up for a sec in 3rd during normal driving??? Mine does it. Tried fixing it in Edit, but selecting the lock-up through the shift did't stop it from unlocking. 
A lower 3-4 upshift (yuck) or higher 3rd gear lock-up will stop it.
It is one of the reasons I use D in town and manually shift to 4th when I go above 45 mph for any extended time.

Re: Converter locks up for a sec in 3rd during normal driving??? Mine was doing the same thing. I had Jason at MTI to reprogram the PCM for 3rd & 4th(OD) to lock at the same speed. My converter locks at 40 mph whether in 3rd or OD now. Much better and should be less wear on the converter lock up bands.

Well that works, I just hate that it has to lock and then unlock and then lock again so that looks like it will fix it. thanks

Re: Converter locks up for a sec in 3rd during normal driving??? This problem is annoying, but I have not adjusted the lockup points to get rid of it. The reason for this is because when I drive around in D, I like the converter to lock up in 3rd as soon as possible to help me get up to speed without the converter stalling up real high.
