Default 3rd Gear gone or just slipping?

I was driving around and the car was acting weird, so I kept it in drive as I got on the highway ramp.
the car accelerated fine in drive as far as I went 85-90mph, about 37-3900rpms, but when I left of the gas it felt like it fell out gear and the rpms dropped to like 14-1500 and it cruised like it was in neutral.
I checked the fluid and it seemed fine.

You were out of lockup in third gear and the overdrive position there is no overun in that position so it would tend to be something like idle in 3 but give it gas and it should catch back up .

my concern is taht it's never done that before, and it's had the same tune and stall for over a year, so why would it start doing it now?

Was that a one time event or has it continued to be symptomatic?

When it did do that, how did it respond to throttle inputs?

Also, how were the upshifts from the next stop?

it seems to behave this way now permanently, maybe it is just out of lock up because
the upshifts are fine from a stop.
I've only felt this drop in rpms on the highway and when I give it gas it goes and responds fine, but it seems to have to "spool up", it doesn't just go like it does at lower speeds in Drive.
I'm used to it behaving differently in Drive, like it's in gear ready to go, not having to go up in rpms for it to go.
