Default I have a question for the transmission gurus.

I just bought a 99 camaro with a stalled a4. It is supposed to be a mild built trans. I was told by the guy I got it from it needed a dyno tune because of the recent stage 2 head install. Heres what its doing. When it is at about 65-70 mph on the freeway it acts like the converter doesn't want to lock up or it is droping back to 3rd gear. You can swap the shifter to 3rd and then back to O.D. and it will lock in for a moment. Could this be a trans problem or tuning? Also I tried to drive the car into work tonight and when I stoped and put gas in the car I placed it in park. After getting the gas I started it up and went to pull out of the parking lot and had to stop for traffic. The car has pretty bad cam surge I guess because of a tuning issue and it has a torquer v3 cam. Soem times it tries to die so I put it in neutral while I was sitting. Then the car would not go back into gear. I tried every gear including reverse it acted like the linkage came off or some thing but it would sit still in park. The linkage was still hooked up though. I had to have it towed to my house. After they droped it off I started it up and then it went into gear fine. I Don't get it any one have any Ideas? Could this be a tunning issue also? Here is wha t Iwas told about the trans thats in the car.
Built 4L60E with high performance clutches, Kevlar band and shift kit. Shifts perfectly.

Being that you said that it sometimes will not move and also is seems to have a lockup issue, I would bet that the filter is full of converter material. I would lower the pan and do a visual inspection. You can try to replace the filter but it sounds as if you already have other issues. Vince

Definately appears to be an internal issue.

The cam surge at idle issue could easily be related to a very tight converter. If the combination was not well thought out and then properly tuned it will run poorly. I see it all the time.

Give us a call if you need help with it.

Good Luck with the new ride man!
