Guys there is an inherent problem with converting the 6L80E to older vehicles. That is, when this unit came out it also came with it's own internal controller and with that came an entirely new communications system.

Point is, it is going to be a while before the latest evolution transmissions are made to be compatible with the previous generation vehicles.

However, there are several companies, including ACE that are developing these units these days. But it will be some time before they are available in the marketplace.

I'll keep you guys updated as milestones are reached.

I have a 66 vette and expect it to work for me, but then again I expect it to work in cojunction with either an LS7 or LS3 engine and computer.

Now what I got screwed by was trying to use a 4L60/65 with LS3...LOL Got a cheap fix for that problem? 4L70 and 2008 4L60/65 trannys have a high core charge plus beef up cost. It would have been as cheap to have just bought another 6L80 and went with it....

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand this question... Are you saying the 60/65 was not compatible or would not hold the power?

Give me a call, I don't mind helping you find a solution.

I'm saying that the 4L70 is compatable with the LS3 and that 4L60/65 made prior to 2008 are not unless you update them.

Key is lack of ISS like the 4L70 has. The ISS adds 2 pins to the main connector of the trans. Found about need for trans to have ISS when I went to order wire harness for LS3/4L60/65 build combination.

All need to be built to hold the LS3's power potential.

I get it , thanks for the clarification.

And yep, interchangeability between late model combinations is getting more and more complicated isn't it?

I have done some converters for Mast Motorsports. They have done a few conversions putting a 6L80 in an older vehicle. They make their own computer and it talks to the transmission. Maybe PM them and see if they can help, they are sponsors.

I don't know much about the 6l80e but I was wondering since the last digits denote 80e like the for 4l80e does this mean it is going to be a similar transmission only with 6 gears. In less words is it going to be as tough as a 4l80e lol.
Thanks, Chase

I believe the 6L90E would come closest to matching the 4L80E unbuilt. Right now, as far as I know, the only shop working on developing a 6L80E beef up is RPM Transmissions.

Not enough of either in use at long black dyno yet to see how well they hold up in stock form for comparison.
