Default Help Picking Stall speed(TH350)

I'm trying to decide how big of a stall to go with in my new th350 setup. I really want some descent 60's NA, but do not want to spray through the converter on gas. The car is a h/c car, 3.73 gear, 28x10.5x15 et drags, th350 with 2.52 1st gear, 6500rpm shift point. Planning on a 150 shot of gas. raceweight will be about 3350. Currently I'm thinking I can get away with about a 3600 stall speed. I'd go with a 4400 if I thought it would perform on gas, but I suspect it would be way to loose to spray much on. Any suggestions?

I'd stay below a 4000 for a 150 shot with a H/C car shifting at 6500.

At least 3600 and with the right unit you could run 4000. A lot depends upon the design. Converters designed for a long shift extension like the YTP series don't work as well as a tight converter like Yank's PYE series or their SS series (developed as part of Yank's effort for the turbo Buick 3.8).

Yessir, an SS4000 would rock with that setup.

Could you guys be more specific as to what is different on these SS and PYE series converters, or is that Yank's patent? I would love to be able to run a 4000 stall w/o spraying through it on a 150 shot.

It's about holding power (holding the RPMs closer to what they would be when NA and pulling the RPMs back into the power on the shifts.) The PYE converters are larger (258mm) than most of the other converters (245mm) and thus have more holding power. The SS converters, while being 245mm converters, have a 21 blade stator which gives more holding power. Both lines have high STRs which also helps in this regard.

All of the Extreme converters have 6-bolt mounting lugs for extra strength in extreme cases of power.

The SS4000E would be my Yank choice for a mild to moderate shot of nitrous in a heads/cam car.
