Default Locked or unlocked converter on dyno?

For a dyno tune do you lock the converter or keep it unlocked? And really what does this mean? Thanks George

Hopefully for a good tune it will be done on the dyno and the street to get your shift points down and tune for locked and unlocked. For dyno results the higher numbers will come with a locked converter, due to the slippage loss with an unlocked converter.

For the tuning though it should be done both ways to fine tune everything. Remember that different levels or rpm ranges of stalls will have different shift extension etc, so a good tuner will help tune all of that to get the most out of your combo while enhancing the street manners and drive manners of the car.

I would also watch out for burning the converter up on the dyno. Most converters are not made for a WOT run and will fail while on the dyno.

Mine was unlocked. I'm not going to hurt my tranny for a dyno number. I'll see what the 1/4 mile dyno says when the temps drop a little.
